WI Alumni Named in Top-100 College Baseball Player List

Stony Brook senior catcher Pat Cantwell projected to have another big year for the Seawolves.

The last time Patch reported on former West Islip High School baseball standout Pat Cantwell, he was selected in the 38th round by the .

On Tuesday, Cantwell was recognized by CollegeBaseballDaily.com as a top-100 player in all of college baseball by writer Brian Foley. He was ranked No. 99. 

Cantwell, who's entering his senior year at Stony Brook University, is coming off a huge junior season in which he started every game for the 42-12 Seawolves and batted .308 from the leadoff spot.  Over the summer, Cantwell played in the highly competitive Cape Cod Baseball League for the Bourne Braves and was named to the CCBL All-Star team.

Cantwell's former teammate at Stony Brook (and West Islip), , was selected in the fifth round of the '11 MLB draft by the Houston Astros.
