WI Alumni Lacrosse Report: Players Gear up For NCAA Tourneys

Here's a look at how former West Islip High School lacrosse players fared for their new schools last week.

Every Monday during the college lacrosse season, Patch will update you on the progress of former players.  Since there's so many to count, we won't be listing every player each week.

Player of the Week:  (UNC, Fr.)

Galasso tallied two goals and one assist in a tremendous 9-8 OT win over No. 3 Notre Dame Friday night.  Sure we've seen him in this column pile up bigger numbers, but the victory secured UNC a spot in the NCAA tournament.

The Tar Heels will host ACC-foe Maryland in the first round Sunday at 1 p.m. on ESPN.

Lauren Spagnoletta (C.W. Post, Jr.)

A six point (four goals, two assists) effort was almost enough for the Spagnoletta and No. 8 Post to get past No. 5 Dowling.  As it would have it, Dowling won in triple OT 15-14.  The postseason is next for Post and we'll keep you posted (no pun intended) on who and when they play.

Eddie Plompen (C.W. Post, So.)

Plompen ended the regular season just as he started it; with a dominating win and big points outing.  In a 13-2 victory over Molloy on Saturday, he tallied three goals, three assists and will lead Post when they host No. 3 Mercyhurst on May 21 in the first round of the NCAA DII tournament.

Peter Gonzalez (SUNY Cobleskill, So.)

As a result of a huge sophomore season, Gonzalez was selected to the first-team All NEAC by the league's coaches.  All he did was lead his team in points (68), goals (33), assists (35) and had a conference high three game-winning goals.

Ian Braddish (Hofstra, So.)

Though Braddish and No. 10 Hofstra didn't end the season exactly how they wanted (lost to Delaware 10-9 in the CAA semifinals on Wednesday), they received the last at-large bid and an invitation to the NCAA tournament during Sunday night's selection show.

Braddish came on strong toward the middle of the season, which included seven-straight games with at least three points.  The streak ended against Delaware (two assists) but he'll have another shot on Saturday at No. 3 Johns Hopkins.   The game will be televised at noon on ESPN2.
