West Islip Women Ready For NCAA LAX Tournies

Several WI High School grads and former lacrosse stars taking part in NCAA tournaments starting this weekend.

This weekend marks the start of the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse tournaments and several former West Islip High School graduates will be hitting the field with an eye toward a possible national championship.

At the Division I level, Syracuse has a first round bye and will play the winner of Boston College/Dartmouth on Sunday at 3 p.m. Playing for the Orange is goaltender Alyssa Costantino and midfielder Loren Ziegler. On the season, Costantino appeared in 15 games, starting five with a 2-2 record. Ziegler, a sophomore, appeared in five games with 1 goal and 1 assist.

On Friday, Cassie Campasano and her Monmouth teammates will take on high scoring Navy. In 19 games this season, Campasano lead the Hawks with 35 goals.

Casey McGowan and Georgetown will play the winner of the Penn/Virginia game on Sunday. During the season, McGowan, a sophomore defenseman, appeared in 18 games for the Hoyas and had 23 groundballs, 9 caused turnovers and 9 draw controls.

Also on Sunday, top-seeded Maryland will take on the winner of the Stony Brook/Towson game. The Terapins roster includes sophomore Erin Collins. During the season, the midfielder played in 17 games with 6 goals and 4 assists.  

Division II

Saturday will see two Long Island-based colleges hit the field during the Division II Women’s Lacrosse Tournament.

Katie Rotan will be a key offensive weapon when LIU Post faces Stonehill. On the season, Rotan started in 17 games and had 37 goals and 11 assists.

Adelphi also kicks off the postseason Saturday as the Panthers take the field against Le Moyne. Devan Crimi played in 19 games this season for Adelphi and finished as the team’s second leading scorer with 50 goals and 21 assists. Her teammate, Sara Sangiorgio was fourth on the team in scoring with 49 goals and 7 assists.
