Girls varsity soccer records ninth shutout, field hockey team loses to Newfield.

The following sports update is provided by the high school daily announcements on the West Islip School District website.

Girls Varsity Soccer Celebrates Ninth Shutout Game

The girls varsity soccer team recorded its ninth shutout of the season with a 5-0 win over Riverhead on Wednesday. The team’s league record now stands at 11-0. Nicole Blair returned to match play with a goal and player of the match honors. Shannen Gillespie, Lindsey Darrell and Allysa Gillespie added goals while Emily Piciullo recorded the lone assist.

Girls JV Soccer Remains Undefeated

On Wednesday, the girls JV soccer team kept its undefeated season alive with an 8-0 win over Riverhead. The Lady Lions were led by midfielder Adrianna Lent who had great passes, Brooke Verdillo who anchored the defense and Kelsey Krupski who took charge on offense and is clearly back on her game after a injury this past summer. The team is now 13-0. The final game of the season is Friday against Centereach.

JV Field Hockey Loses to Newfield

In a tough match-up Wednesday the girls JV field hockey team lost to Newfield by a score of 2-0. Middle schooler defender Emily Rushton had nice hits and there were great block tackles by middle schooler midfielder Franki Dorfman and Tori Scuderi and good ball control by captain Nicole Cotton.
