West Islip Man Behind Yankee's Questionable Catch

Did Vinnie Pellegrino assist in Dewayne Wise's phantom catch?

A West Islip man unwittingly assisted in a cover-up Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium, during the New York team's game against the Cleveland Indians, MLB.com reports.

During the seventh inning of the game, Indians infielder Jack Hannahan sent a fly ball into the stadium's left-field stands.

Yankee outfielder Dewayne Wise went diving in to catch the ball; he emerged seconds later, with a closed glove. Third-base umpire Chris DiMuro ruled Wise had made the catch, clinching the inning.

"Dewayne was just coming into the seats," Pellegrino told the site. "And it hit the seats, and then the ball hit something -- whether it hit him or the seats -- but it ended up in my hand."

Hannahan is now calling for the demotion of Dimuro following the bad call.
