West Islip LAX Stars Named Collegiate All-Americans
Turri, Flanagan, Galasso and Plompen receive top honors.
Four West Islip High School graduates and former stars on the boys lacrosse team were named collegiate All-Americans this week by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA).
In Division I, junior midfielder Justin Turri of Duke was named a Second Team All-American, and senior defenseman Ryan Flanagan and freshman attack Nicky Galasso, both of North Carolina, where named Second Team and Third Team All-Americans respecitvely.
In Division II, junior attack Eddie Plompen of C.W. Post was named a First Team All-American.

Turri, who has fought injuries throughout the season, has played in 16 of Duke’s 19 games this season and to date has tallied 14 goals and 24 total points. The West Islip native had two goals in the Blue Devils’ 7-5 victory over Notre Dame this past Sunday. The win sent Duke, the defending national champion, to one of the national semi-final games this Saturday in Baltimore against ACC rival Maryland.
Galasso, the nation’s top freshman recruit in 2010, finished his first season at North Carolina as the Tar Heels leading scorer with 24 goals and 32 assists. His teammate Flanagan is regarded as one of top defenseman at the Division I level and was also named to the USILA Scholar All-American Team.

Since joining C.W. Post, Plompen has been one of the nation’s top snipers in Division II. He finished this past season with 54 goals and 18 assists. Twice this past season Plompen scored six goals, against Grand Canyon on Feb. 19 and Chestnut Hill on Feb. 26.
The four 2011 All-Americans were teammates on the 2007 West Islip High School boys lacrosse team that finished the season with 22-1 record and its second consecutive New York State Class A championship.
That season, the offense was lead by Turri with 64 goals and 109 total points with Galasso — then a freshman — chipping in with 53 goals and 103 total points. The ’07 team’s defense, led by Flanagan, allowed an average of 4.1 goals per game.
Turri, Flanagan and teammate Brian Caufield were named high school All-Americans for the 2007 season.
