West Islip’s Kyle Turri will be in Finland this week as a member of Team USA’s U-19 men’s lacrosse team competing in the 2012 World Championships.
A year removed from his high school graduation, Turri just completed his freshman year at Duke University where the Blue Devils again made it to the National Semi-Finals before losing to Maryland 16-10. One of four goalies on the Duke roster, Turri played in eight games during the past season — starting three — and compiled a 2-1 record.
During his high school career, Turri started in goal his junior and senior years helping the Lions win a New York State Class A championship in 2010 and a Suffolk County Class A title in 2011.
Turri and the heavily favored Team USA begin play in the World Championships Friday against Australia. The team will then play Canada on Saturday, England on Sunday and Iroquois Nationals on Tuesday. The tournament closes on July 21 when a champion will be crowned.
