West Islip Lacrosse Plays in SWR Fall Classic

Coaches use tourney to analyze young talent.

West Islip's lacrosse team, ranked No. 1 in the nation, participated in the fourth annual Shoreham-Wading River Fall Classic Sunday.

With plenty of top college coaches on hand, the Lions played No. 2 Manhasset, and perennial Long Island playoff contenders Shoreham and Syosset. The tournament is merely a showcase and no one actually wins.

Lions head coach Scott Craig uses it as an evaluation period for younger talent.

"We're looking to see who can take the next step," he said.

West Islip will play at a tournament next week in Long Beach also.
