West Islip Girls LAX Tops Sachem East

Erin Byrnes scores six times as Lady Lions win another close one.

The West Islip girls’ lacrosse team had another close game but defeated Sachem East 14-12 Wednesday at the high school.

The game started out slow for the Lady Lions as they fell behind four goals in the first few minutes of the game. Quickly, West Islip put an end to their scoring drought and by half time was up 9-6.

Goalie Ruthann Dooling had a strong game with seven saves. Cara Douglas was a force on defense causing several turnovers and scooping up numerous ground balls. A group effort on offense led to six players tallying goals.

Erin Byrnes led West Islip with 6 goals and 3 assists and Lorraine Hodgson had 2 goals and 2 assists. Lindsey Darrell and Cara Douglas each had 2 goals and Kelsey Allen and Riley Hill each chipped in with a goal.
