WATCH: Time Lapse Video of US Open Badminton Tournament Setup at SCCC

The 2014 YONEX US Open Badminton Championships kicked off at the Michael J. Grant Campus of Suffolk County Community College on Tuesday. 

Check out the multi-day time lapse video above of the college's field house being transformed into a setting for badminton's biggest stars to compete on over the next week. 

The major international badminton tournament–a first of its kind on the East Coast of the United States–is being hosted at the College’s Health, Sports and Education Center field house in Brentwood. 
 
The tournament will award a total prize purse of $120,000 and is one of only 11 Grand Prix Gold tournaments worldwide, according to officials.
 
Tickets cost is between $15 and $30 for adults and $10 to $15 for school age children. Tickets are available online at: www.usopengpg.com. Ticket prices vary depending on the date.
 
International badminton stars that are scheduled to compete, include the 2012 Olympic silver medalists in men’s doubles, Mathias Boe / Carsten Mogensen (Denmark) and currently ranked third in the world, bronze medalist in women’s doubles, Nina Vislova; in men’s singles Tien Minh Nguyen (Vietnam, 14th in the world), Tien Chen Chou (Taipei, 19th in the world); and in Women’s singles, Nichaon Jindapon (13th in the world).
 
“We are delighted to welcome world class athletes from across the globe to Suffolk County Community College and to host an event of this magnitude,” Suffolk County Community College President Shaun McKay said in a press release. 
 
“Not only will the event highlight our institution and showcase our facilities, but also demonstrates that while our College can transform the lives of students, it can also be an economic engine for Suffolk County,” McKay said.

Tournament officials expect competitors from 30 countries to participate in the six-day event, and anticipate 300 athletes, coaches, trainers, and support staff, all of whom will fill hotel rooms, eat at local restaurants and tour Long Island while they are here.
