The defending New York State Class A champion West Islip Lions boys lacrosse team began its title defense with a 15-9 win over Smithtown East on Tuesday.

Senior Mike Sagl found the back of the cage four times and senior Conor Braddish added three goals and an assist to lead West Islip.
