Sports Shorts: Girls Teams Celebrate Wins, Boys JV Soccer Victorious in OT

Girls Varsity Soccer is first in league play with 4-0 record as of Wednesday.

The West Islip Girls Varsity Gymnastics team is now 3-0 after beating East Islip 147-109. Hanna Battalini took first on all four events, Allson Heaphy took second on the beam and Lauren Coll took third on the balance bean. The team takes on Sachem this Friday.

The West Islip Girls Varsity Swimming and Diving team beat Hauppauge by 97-82 this week with Phoebe Meringolo taking first in the 200 individual medley and thee 100 fly. The team takes on Sayville Thursday at home at 4 p.m.

On Tuesday the West Islip Boys JV Soccer team beat Copiague 3-2 in overtimes. Trailing 2-0 with less than 20 minutes in game play, Michael Menjivar scored after converting a pass from Patrick Carter. Joe Rivera then tied it up with a goal. With the score tied at 2-2 the game went into overtime and West Islip got the golden goal from Ryan Forcino from about 30 yards out from the net. Both goaltenders, Brandon Isolano and James Kory, played exceptionally well.
