Spagnoletta, Rotan Help Post Advance In Playoffs

Former West Islip LAX stars score five of Pioneers' 14 goals in NCAA tournament win over Adelphi.

The impact of former West Islip High School lacrosse players is also being felt in the NCAA Division II women’s playoffs.

On Saturday, senior Lauren Spagnoletta had four goals and an assist to help C.W. Post defeat Adelphi 14-11 in a game played in Brookville. The win moves the Pioneers to 15-3 on the season and sets a semi-final matchup with LeMoyne College on Thursday in Louisville, Ky.

In Saturday’s contest against Adelphi, Spagnoletta of West Islip would score back-to-back goals early in the first half to give C.W. Post an early 2-1 lead. West Islip’s Devan Crimi scored the Panthers first goal.

Spagnoletta would net the hat trick with 3:41 left in the first half to trim the Adelphi lead to 6-5. Her fourth goal would come with 24:23 remaining in the second half to give the Pioneers a 10-6 lead.

Her teammate Katie Rotan, also of West Islip, chipped in with a goal at the 25:47 mark of the second half to give C.W. Post a 9-6 lead.

On the season, Spagnoletta has 37 goals and 14 assists while the sophomore Rotan has 27 goals and 4 assists.
