It was a big day Wednesday for West Islip senior attackman Brendan Smith.
In the Lions 10-5 win over Walt Whitman, Smith set a team record scoring nine goals. The previous record was eight goals shared by Keith Wempe (vs. Connetquot in 1994) and Ryan Euell (vs. Northport in 2005). On the season, Smith has 33 goals.
Smith’s point total for the game (9) is also the third highest for a single game for West Islip dating back to 1988, which was done seven other times.
The Lions record for total points in single game is 11 held by Nicky Galasso. The current North Carolina star set the record in a 2008 game against Bay Shore.
