Rotan, LIU Post Win National Title

Big weekend for former WI LAX stars in several NCAA lacrosse tournaments.

It was a big weekend for several former West Islip High School lacrosse players taking part in the NCAA lacrosse playoffs.

Katie Rotan
and her LIU Post teammates won their second consecutive Division II Women’s Lacrosse Championship with a 10-7 win over Limestone College on Saturday.

Rotan, who had a goal and 3 assists in the title game, was named to the NCAA Championship’s All Tournament Team. The junior midfielder finished the season with 40 goals and 18 assists.

• Turri, Duke Reach Semi-Finals

Duke’s Kyle Turri made only 2 saves against Notre Dame, but the second was a game-saver as the Blue Devils slid past the Fighting Irish 12-11 on Sunday. The win puts Duke in the Men’s Division I National-Semi Finals for the seventh consecutive year where they will face Cornell on Saturday.

With 3:30 to play in the fourth quarter and Duke trailing by a goal, Turri stopped Notre Dame’s Sean Rodgers close-in shot and quickly made an outlet pass to Greg DeLuca. Twelve seconds later, Josh Dionne tied the game at 11. David Lawson would get the game winner with just over 2 minutes remaining.

• Costantino, Collins Head to Women’s Semis

Maryland Sophomore Erin Collins had 2 groundballs, 2 draw controls and 1 caused turnover as the Terapins defeated Duke 14-9 Saturday. Maryland moves on to the NCAA Division I Women’s Semi-Finals on Friday where they will face Syracuse.

On Saturday, the Orange defeated Florida 13-9 to earn the right to play Maryland. Alyssa Costantino played 30 minutes in goal for Syracuse making 3 saves and was credited with the win.
