Lions Roar to County Finals

Defeat Connetquot 13-9 in semifinals

The West Islip Lions advanced to the Suffolk County Class A finals today with 13-9 win over Connetquot. The game marked the final one at home for the West Islip, which will play Thursday night, June 3 at 8 p.m at Stony Brook University against second-ranked Ward Melville for the county title.

The Lions benefitted from a balanced scoring attack. Junior Mike Sagl tallied three goals in the first half. Nicky Galasso, Andrew Hodgson, Rob Moore, Matt Gebhardt and Drew Federico all scored for West Islip. 

With West Islip leading 11-6 in the fourth quarter, Connetquot mounted a comeback to pull to within two goals, but Galasso scored his third goal of the game and Federico added a goal to ice the victory for the Lions.
