Aponte Named A Top HS Senior By Inside Lacrosse

West Islip LAX star ranked among the nation's best by periodical.

West Islip’s Nick Aponte was named to Inside Lacrosse magazine’s Top-50 Young Gun Seniors, a list that includes the top high school players from across the country.

Ranked number 22, Aponte in Sept. will begin his senior year at the high school. Before hitting the lacrosse field in the spring for head coach Scott Craig, Aponte is expected to play a leading role on the Lions football team.

During his junior year, the Penn St.-bound Aponte battled through injuries and some uneven play and finished the season strong for the boys’ lacrosse team, which captured its fifth New York State Class A title over the past seven years.

In the Lions 12-7 victory over Ithaca in the state title game, Aponte had three goals and four assists and was named the game’s offensive most valuable player. Through out the playoffs, Aponte became more of a presence in the West Islip offense and finished the post season with 20 total points.
