WIHS Alumni Sports Report: Aponte, Kastner Win Big

Weekly column highlights athletic accomplishments of former WIHS students.

  • SUNY Cortland sophomore swimmer Sarah Culmo had a big day last Saturday at the RPI invitational.  Culmo not only won the 50-meter freestyle, but she helped her relay team take first in the 400-medley.  (RPI Athletics
  • Lindsay Aponte, a sophomore at Sacred Heart University, helped her team finish 2nd at the Boston University Quad Meet by winning the shot put with a mark of 13.81m (45'3"), which also qualified her for the New England and ECAC Championships.  So far Aponte's finished first in shot put in all five meets this season.
  • Future West Islip alumnus, Ryan Wieczorek (currently a junior), has committed to Delaware to play lacrosse.  (LI Lacrosse News)
  • Rensselaer junior David Kastner was awarded the track & field Liberty Leauge Performer of the Week.  He posted a 60-meter sprint time of 8.50, which was good for the win and placed him in the top-20 in that event. (RPI Athletics)
