The school budget conversation started earlier than usual this year, and hit an important note Wednesday night when the West Islip board of education unanimously to present to the community.
The adopted budget includes the closing of Westbrook and Kirdahy elementary schools (with 43 staff layoffs), as well as reductions to the high school's BOCES and dance programs while eliminating two administrative positions and reigning in spending on supplies, equipment and contracted services.
