School News: Runners Win Title; Veterans Honored

Boys cross country wins first title, students raising money for great causes.

Boys Cross County Grabs First-Ever County Division II Title

The boys cross country team took its first-ever Suffolk County Division II title this past week. The team’s win was led by sophomore Kyle Kelly who won the 5000-meter race with a time of 17:45. Seniors Craig Nelson came in third, Scott Nelson in fifth and sophomore Charles Hetterich in 17th place.

Student Double Collection for Breast Cancer Donation

The students collected $201 dollars as part of its month long fundraiser in honor of National Breast Cancer Month. The money, which is more than double of what was raised last year, will be donated to the West Islip Breast Cancer Coalition.

Halloween Candy Drive Supports the Troops

Students are being asked to save some of their collected candy on Halloween as part of the school’s candy drive. The candy will be sold and the school will receive a dollar per pound. The money will then be donated to troops overseas. All candy must be donated by Friday, Nov. 1 and put in the collection boxes in the school’s main lobby.

Special Veteran's Remembrance Effort

The school is creating a special wall of honor for Veteran’s Day in October. Students with family relatives in active or past service are asked to bring in a photo to put on the wall. The photographs can be dropped off in the box in the school lobby.
