West Islip Girls LAX Falls To Bay Shore

Lions season ends with 13-5 loss to rival Marauders.

A dominant first half performance by the Bay Shore girls lacrosse team proved to be too much for West Islip to overcome as the Lions fell to the host Marauders 13-5 in a Class A semi-final playoff game Wednesday afternoon.

During the first half, Bay Shore was a step ahead of West Islip winning the ground ball battle and limiting the Lions offensive chances. When West Islip did have scoring opportunities — which were few and far between — Marauders senior netminder Samantha Fagone kept the Lions from finding the back of the cage.

Despite trailing by seven goals, West Islip came out fighting in the second half and trimmed the Bay Shore lead to 8-2 following a goal by senior Erin Byrnes.

The closest West Islip would get is 11-5 following a goal by senior Erin Collins. But a Bay Shore goal at the 6:28 mark of the second half would ultimately quash any hope of a Lions comeback.

Senior Loren Ziegler paced the Lions scoring with two goals while Collins and Byrnes each had a goal and an assist.

Bay Shore’s offensive attack was led by a trio of freshmen; Kyra Harney’s four goals and six total points, two goals and two assists from Carly Cox and three goals from Katie Kirk.

The loss to Bay Shore ends the season for the third seeded Lions (14-4), which reached the Class A semi-final game following its thrilling over Half Hollow Hills at home on Monday.
