A longtime rivalry with East Islip led to West Islip getting some major exposure on a popular New York sports talk radio show.
On Tuesday’s “Boomer & Carton Show” on WFAN, co-host Craig Carton and several staffers connected with the program wore a variety of West Islip apparel as a way to mock co-host Boomer Esiason, an East Islip High School graduate and former NFL quarterback.
During a recent Boomer & Carton show, Esiason came into the WFAN studio wearing a sweatshirt that promoted Carton’s arch-rival in high school.
In response, Carton issued an on-air plea to West Islip’s athletic director to send him some West Islip apparel so he could get back at Esiason.
Tim Horan, West Islip’s director of Health, Physical Education, Athletics & Recreation, sent Carton a West Islip Athletics pullover and Murphy’s Sports Shack in Babylon Village sent some additional West Islip gear to WFAN.
“It was great to see West Islip getting positive exposure on New York’s top-rated sports talk show,” Horan said.
