O'Connor Seeks Board of Ed Seat

Kevin O'Connor challenges incumbent Trustee Michael Zotto.

The list of candidates on West Islip's Board of Education ballot continues to grow, as Kevin O'Connor announced his intention to run for a seat.

O'Connor, a West Islip resident since 1991, is challenging , who has served as a trustee on the board since 2009.

Earlier this month, Patch reported incumbent will run for another term, his third. West Islip resident is also a candidate for the May 15 ballot, running for Gellar's current seat. 

The district's Meet The Candidate night is set for Monday, May 7.

With all the media surrounding them, mistakes or these types of things are bound to happen. Its for the parents to handle, not the public. Its a personal matter. Anyone who is going against these kids has major issues and should really look in the mirror at their own mistakes. I agree that this has nothing to do with West Islip or the school board. That is ridiculous!!!

The media was called by the person who turned the kids in. This person fed the media false…Read More information, claiming that the incident was more severe then it was. In the aftermath of the glen cove cheating story, the media was crawling all over town looking to break a scandle. In my opinion, the superintendent did the right thing by issuing a statement. It was a really dumb story to begin with, and it is one thing to alert the school principal about the issue, nothing wrong with that, but to turn around and call the coakaroach media in means that that person was looking to hurt the students and damage the school district. I wonder who would be so calculating, so full of hatred for the schools and administration to stoop to that level? Maybe the answer to that question is really what you are seeking.

Or does anyone else think that all parties involved should be fired for betraying the…Read More trust and adding to the tarnished reputation the West Islip School system and its students by reporting the recent cheating scandal to the media. I mean really, did anyone from the district or school system need to contribute to the story in the media, how about no comment the matter is under review. Why does the BOE allow an overpaid moron like Richard Simon with no public information experience to speak to the media let alone anyone? This matter should have been handled by the School Districts attorney. Good job to the Morons of the BOE and Superintendents office keep letting us tax payers down.
