School District Sets Elementary Transition Orientation Dates

School tours, teacher meetups and open houses scheduled for incoming and transitioning elementary students in the district.

The West Islip School District has set dates for orientation and transition activites for all four of the district's elementary schools, beginning in June and lasting through the summer.

According to information posted on the district's website, numerous school tours, open houses and meet-and-greets will be held for incoming students and that are new to the district and those, which are at the end of the current school year.

Superintendent Richard Simon spoke about the orientation activities during several board of education meetings, assuring parents that students would have ample opportunity to become familiar with the new schools and teachers.

The orientation dates are as follows:

School Tours - Wednesday, June 20  4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

  • School buildings will be open for students and parents to tour

Open House - Thursday, August 23  10 a.m. to Noon

  •  Elementary buildings will be open for students and parents to tour 
  •  Refreshments will be provided by the PTA and served in the cafeteria 
  •  Building maps will be distributed by principals

School Visits - Thursday, August 30 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

  • Elementary buildings will be open for students and parents to tour 
  • Teachers and principals will meet and greet students
  • Parents may drop-off supplies in classrooms

Additional Open Houses

  • Bayview: Thursday, September 6
  • Paul J. Bellew: Monday, September 10
  • Manetuck: Tuesday, September 11
  • Oquenock: Wednesday, September 12
