PAWS To Honor Craig, Koeper and Smith

West Islip education foundation to recognize accomplishments of educator and coach, longtime board of ed member and former administrative assistant at March 15 gala.

Partners Advancing West Islip Schools (PAWS) is hosting its 8th Annual Gala on Friday, March 15 at Captain Bill's in Bay Shore.

At this year's event, the organization will honor Scott Craig, physical education teacher and boys lacrosse coach, with its Outstanding Educator Award; George Smith, current Board of Education Trustee and former BOE president, with its Outstanding Community Member Award; and Jeanne Koeper, retired administrative assistant to the superintendent, with the Friends of PAWS Award.

PAWS continues to raise funds for programs and equipment for use by local students in schools across the district, and the annual dinner/dance is the organization's biggest fundraiser.

Since its inception in 2004, PAWS has donated funding to West Islip schools to cover the cost of many items, including cameras, e-books, a recodring studio for the high school and several rock climbing walls.

To date, the organization has donated items to schools totaling more than $270,000.
