Our Lady of Lourdes To Remain Open

School says they will stay open despite several catholic schools closing on Long Island.

will remain open, despite the announcement Tuesday of several catholic elementary school closings on Long Island, school officials said. 

In a letter addressed to parents--which was also posted on the school's website-- OLL Principal Jane Krol and Pastor Rev. Michael Vetrano said they've been been taking positive steps the last five years to ensure stability and strength within the school.

"We are a strong school, based in our faith," the letter said.  "We are dedicated to improving education for all students--without exception or excuse.  Our plans for the future focus clearly on the needs of our students and the dreams of their parents."

On Tuesday afternoon, that they will close six elementary schools on Long Island, many due to declining enrollment.

Schools that will shut their doors  include; St. John Baptist de La Salle Regional School (Farmingdale), St. Catherine of Sienna School (Franklin Square), St. Ignatius Loyola School (Hicksville), Sacred Heart School (North Merrick) and Prince of Peace Regional School (Sayville) and Our Lady of Perpetual Hope (Lindenhurst). 

"The decisions that were made [yesterday] are part of a strategic plan to strengthen Catholic Education on Long Island," the letter said.  "As we move forward, we will continue to offer a quality Catholic Education that meets the needs of the students in our care.
