Our Lady of Lourdes Students Explore Animals and Habitats

First graders take a mutltimedia approach to learn about the animal world.

The first grade students at Our Lady of Lourdes in West Islip have been immersed in the new Common Core Standards. Through a collaboration of teachers the children explored animals and their habitats. The children studied animal habitats with their science teacher, Miss Cuttonaro. This knowledge was enhanced through their reading with Literacy teacher, Miss Fasano. In the Media Center with Mrs. O’Sullivan, the children researched an animal of their choice using selected websites. The children presented their research in a final project using art, writing and technology. The unit culminated with a video conference with the Monte Marine Lab in Florida.
