District Study Group to Hold Community Input Discussion

Meeting will be held this Tuesday at the high school.

The West Islip School District Study Group will be holding their first community input discussion this Tuesday at the high school auditorium.

The meeting will include numerous topics that the study group has been researching since they were formed last school year, including building capacity, student enrollment trends, and grade configurations.

"After many months of hard work, the study group is ready to make its preliminary presentation to the public," said Steve Gellar, president of the WI Board of Education. "The group will be asking the public for its input in terms of both questions and opinions, and that feedback will be incorporated into the group's final report, which will be presented to the board on November 9th."

According to Superintendent Rick Simon, the study group is comprised of 35 teachers, administrators, students, parents and community members. The public will be able to speak in similar fashion to standard BOE meetings, with a maximum of three minutes per person.

Gellar said the study group works independent from the BOE, but expects most of the board members to be present at Tuesday's meeting.

"After the presentation of the final report is made to the Board on November 9th, the Board will consider all of the findings, which will include public input," Gellar said. "The Board will make a decision we believe to be in the best interest of the entire community no later than February and we will share that decision with the public as soon as we have made it."
