District Issues Sex Offender Alert

Legal Notice: Anyone who uses this information to injure, harass, or commit a criminal act against any person may be subject to criminal prosecution.

The West Islip school district posted a message on its website alerting parents  within the district about a level one sex offender who has moved into the area.

Robert Accomando, whose level one status means he is considered a moderate risk to repeat a sex offense, resides within the 11795 zip code, according to the bulletin (attached as a PDF).

The school district sends out alerts regarding registered sex offenders in the area, which includes addresses where available and the level of their offense. 

As of Tuesday, the New York State sex offender registry lists four registered offenders of level two or higher living in West Islip, some of whom have aliases.

• Albert Merrifield, level 2, living on Myrtle Avenue
• John Van Detti/John Vandetti, level 3, living on Myrtle Avenue
• Anthony Correnti, level 3, living on Kurzon Road
