District Collecting Athletic Equipment for 'Operation Grand Slam' Drive

Residents can drop off gently used and new athletic equipment at Kirdahy on Dec. 1.

The West Islip Department of Physical Education is teaming up with the Health and Wellness Alliance to host Operation Grand Slam, a sporting equipment drive for kids in need across West Islip.

The drive will take place on Saturday, Dec. 1. Donations of new and gently used athletic equipment can be dropped off at Kirdahy Elementary from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

The equipment collected will be distributed to kids in the West Islip community who have lost their belongings to Hurricane Sandy, or to those who want to try out a new sport without parents having to shell out a lot of money for equipment.
