BOE's Zotto to Speak at Drug Awareness Presentation

Michael Zotto will talk with parents and faculty about how they can educate children on the harmfulness of drug use.

Trustee will be a guest speaker at Wednesday night's Drug Awareness and Prevention Seminar at East Islip High School.  

The presentation will commence at 7 p.m. and will feature numerous speakers discussing everything ranging from alcohol, heroin and prescription pills.  The event will be co-sponsored by the East Islip School District and PTA's of both the high School and middle school. 

"The problem of substance abuse in our culture is growing, and the substances of choice are constantly changing," said Mark Bernard, Principal of EI High School in a statement.  "We want our students and community to fully understand the serious consequences of substance abuse and how everyone needs to be cognizant of the choices they make."

Zotto, a retired NYPD detective, said they'll discuss successful ways of how parents can educate and speak to their children about the harmfulness of drug use. 

"We want to empower parents with the information on the current drugs, trends, signs and symptoms," Zotto said.  "Protecting our children before its too late."

Zotto also said they'll provide an outreach for families who find themselves in need of help.  He'll aslo be speaking at presentations at Port Jefferson on Feb. 7 and 15, and at Hofstra University on March 28.
