BOE Incumbent Seeks Re-Election

Board President Steve Gellar is vying for another term.

Steve Gellar, president of the West Islip Board of Education, is seeking re-election to the board.

Gellar is in his sixth year as a member and was re-elected in 2009, when he ran unopposed.

A West Islip resident since 1996, Gellar is a father of two and works as an electrical engineer.

In 2008, he and current Board of Education Vice President Annmarie LaRosa co-founded the West Islip Summit Coalition, which streamlines volunteer organizations within the community.

Gellar will vie against first-time , who announced his candidacy earlier this month.

The seat currently held by Trustee Michael Zotto will also be contested in next month's election. It was not known if Zotto is planning to seek re-election.

The district's Meet The Candidate night is scheduled for Monday, May 7. The school budget and BOE election will be held on May 15.

Patch will provide more information about the board of education elections as well as candidates over the next few weeks.

You can thank all these POS politicians for the new gun legislation designed to make law abidingRead More citizens give up their second amendment rights out of sheer frustration and incontinence of owning a gun legally for increases in savage on citizen violence. This is only the beginning and in short time many New Yorker's will be forced to remain in their homes fearing one of these animals will make them their pray. I for one believe in the old adage, it's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

I think Proposition 2 is a great idea, in the current structure you have to "call out" anRead More individual basically saying "I think you are doing a particularly bad job". Politics get dirty enough as is and I think this will increase participation and ultimately give us a better Board of Education.

Why didn't the author run for the open seat this year? Bark of a wolf and courage of a lamb.
