5K Fun Run Draw Attracts More Than 850 Participants

Annual event benefits school district's substance abuse educational programs.

More than 850 runners and walkers participated in the West Islip School District's Annual “5K Fun Run and Kid's Dash” this past Sunday. The event, sponsored by the West Islip Health and Wellness Alliance, raised funds for the district’s substance abuse educational programs.

In addition, this year's Kids' Dash was a great success with participation having doubled from last year.

The first runners to cross the finish line in the 5K race included Patrick Fannon at 16:18; 2nd Place- Mike Schab at 17:48; and Craig N. at 17:51, with his twin brother, Scott, right behind him.

School district officials gave special thanks to the many volunteers including the Health and Wellness Committee, PTAs, WITA, WIASA, student volunteers, West Islip Emergency personnel, the Bullying Awareness Committee, Girls Track and Field team, Varsity Cheerleaders, the custodial and grounds crew and the entire West Islip community for making the run such a huge success.
