West Islip Patch Readers Score Town Low on Snow Removal

Average effort rank, on a scale of 1 to 5 (highest), is a 2.6.

The majority of West Islip Patch readers aren’t very thrilled with the snow removal effort by Islip Town crews following the first winter storm of 2014.

When asked on Patch's Facebook page to rate the plowing and sanding effort, on a scale of 1 to 5 (highest), the average rank was a 2.6.

As one reader noted the town did seem to do better than its storm response in February, 2013.

“Anything was better than last year,” wrote John Wodhamil on Patch’s Facebook page.

West Islip resident Matt Goodwin, who lives on Milligan Lane, noted that while his neighborhood saw plenty of plows he wonders why there is still lots of snow in the street.

One of the few residents to give Islip a ‘5’ ranking was Rosemarie Balestrieri Rivera, who gave her ‘5’ with 12 over a dozen exclamation points.

“They didn't come till 12 noon but the guy made sure we weren't left with a high pile of snow at the edge of our driveway,” she wrote.

Carol Tietjen Zappalla is also a big fan.

“First major snow fall I think they did a great job,” she shared.

Resident Rita Grosch Marconi, who gave a ranking of 2, wondered why one town’s effort can be so different than another town’s results.

“What is with Hunter Avenue? Babylon side of Hunter doesn't have one snowflake on it. The Islip side is horrendous. Why is it Babylon can do a much better job??? Udall Road is another example. South side is always cleaned up nicely and the north side is left a mess,” she shared on Facebook.

West Islip reader noted that not all Babylon efforts were perfect either.

“But Babylon forgot the side streets,” noted Linda Koch DiRaimondo.
