Airline adding a third flight to Washington, D.C. beginning Oct. 28.

US Airways is expanding its service at Long Island MacArthur Airport with a third flight to Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C.

Beginning Oct. 28, Flight 3745 will be operating out of the Ronkonkoma-based airport with a daily departure time of 5:15 p.m. Service to the nation’s capital will be provided on a 50-seat regional jet and expand the number of daily flights at MacArthur to 23.

Terry Hennessey, interim airport commissioner, said the new flight was added as the result of high demand from local business travelers.

“Business is good to Washington,” he said. “It’s a sign that business travel is on the upswing, which is very important to us. We’re encouraged by it and we hope it leads to other frequencies by USAir, Southwest and hopefully a third carrier.”

Currently, US Airways operates two flights from Islip to Washington: Flight 3995 departing at 6:19 a.m. and Flight 3652 departing at 2:20 p.m.
