Petition, Facebook Page Fight to 'Save' La Grange Inn

An application to demolish the building and construct a CVS sits before the Town of Islip Planning Board.

Almost two weeks after a proposal to construct a CVS at the site of the La Grange Inn was floated before the Islip Town Planning Board, grassroots efforts to preserve the 200-plus-year-old building are circulating online.

A Facebook page called "Save The La Grange Inn" has gained more than 1,200 members, many of whom have a personal connection to the catering hall.

Similarly, a petition to preserve the La Grange established on gopetition.com in September is gaining momentum.

The petition urges the owners of the property to "revive this establishment so future generations can have happy memories for many years to come." It currently has 263 signatures.

The inn, built in the mid-1700's, is revered by locals as a West Islip landmark. After operating as a catering hall for the past several decades, it has remained vacant since 2010.
