Islip Town officials will hold a press conference Thursday at Long Island MacArthur Airport to encourage the Federal Aviation Administration to select the airport as the location for a new air traffic control facility.
According to information from the Town, placing the FAA’s NexGen air traffic control facility at the airport will help save nearly 1,000 high paying jobs including air traffic controllers, numerous managers, administrative support staff members and computer and technical specialists.
Officials touted MacArthur Airport as a good choice for a new FAA consolidated facility because the airport, “exceeds all FAA location requirements, including available land and infrastructure, proximity to affected populations and seamless quality of life factors for FAA employees.”
Town Supervisor Tom Croci and Deputy Supervisor Trish Bergin Weichbrodt are expected to be joined at the press conference by several state and county officials and representatives from various Long Island organizations.
