Islip Warns of Rough Surf Conditions

National Weather Service says rip currents are expected through the weekend as Tropical Storm Leslie churns far out in the Atlantic.

Islip Town officials are warning residents that the area could feel the impact of some tropical systems that are currently swirling out in the Atlantic Ocean.

According to officials, several tropical depressions in the Atlantic are expected to bring heavy surf and above-average tidal surges to ocean-facing beaches.

According to a statement from the National Weather Service, strong rip currents will likely continue through the weekend from Tropical Storm Leslie, which is well out in the Atlantic and not expected to have a direct impact on Long Island. However, significant beach erosion is likely and over-washes are possible.

“We do not yet know if these storms will make landfall near our Town, but we can be sure that there will be dangerous surf and tidal conditions for at least the next few days,” said Trish Bergin Weichbrodt, Islip’s Deputy Supervisor. “We want to remind residents and tourists that our beaches remain closed and venturing into the ocean waters is strongly discouraged as we expect wave heights of 10 feet and higher.”

You can thank all these POS politicians for the new gun legislation designed to make law abidingRead More citizens give up their second amendment rights out of sheer frustration and incontinence of owning a gun legally for increases in savage on citizen violence. This is only the beginning and in short time many New Yorker's will be forced to remain in their homes fearing one of these animals will make them their pray. I for one believe in the old adage, it's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.
