Islip Town to Lower Cat Adoption Fees in June

Adoptions fees for felines will decrease by $10 beginning June 1.

Islip Town officials have agreed to reduce cat adoption fees throughout the month of June in honor of National Adopt-a-Shelter Cat Month.

Beginning June 1, adoption fees for felines at the Islip Animal Shelter and Adopt-a-Pet Center will be lowered from $40 to $30.

Islip's shelter currently houses about 20 cats, but that number usually doubles by the end of the summer, according to town officials. The fee reduction aims to increase the number of cats adopted.

“We often focus on the adoption of our dogs, because we have so many, but our cats equally deserve the chance at a happy home," said Councilwoman Trish Bergin Weichbrodt. "This will hopefully be that little added incentive to get people down to the shelter to adopt a cat."

Those interested in adopting can visit the Islip Town Shelter located at 210 South Denver Ave. in Bay Shore.
