With temperatures across the region reaching well into the 90s, Islip Town has opened three cooling centers to provide relief to local residents.
According to Town officials, the cooling centers will be open during normal business hours and should be used by anyone having difficulty coping with the heat.
The centers open are the West Islip Senior Center, 90 Higbie Lane, West Islip; Clayton Street Senior Center, 555 Clayton Street, Central Islip; and Brentwood Senior Center, 16 Second Avenue, Brentwood.
Town officials said the high temperatures will also lead to poor air quality, and residents with respiratory problems are encouraged to seek relief within the cooling centers.
A toll free Air Quality Hotline — 800-535-1345 — has been established so residents can stay informed on the air quality situation.
