Islip To Host Business Networking Event

Cultural events, dog obedience classes also being offered by the town.

In an effort to help local businesses maximize and further build relationships, Islip Town and Foreign Trade Zone 52 will host a networking event called “Leveraging Your Business Relationships.”

Sponsored by Wells Fargo and American Business Associates, the event will feature interactive presentations focused on networking and leveraging business relationships and the importance of working with local media, according to town officials

The event is scheduled for Wednesday, March 16, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Sumou Japanese restaurant, 551 East Main Street in Bay Shore.

Student Achievement Night

Islip officials in May will celebrate National Children’s Week and officials are now seeking student nominations from residents across the township.

During Student Achievement Awards Night the evening of Thursday, May 5, students who have made significant contributions to their community or who are excelling academically will be honored. All public and private schools within the town are eligible to submit nominations.

Those interested in nominating a student must have all submissions postmarked by Tuesday, March 1, and/or received by the town by Friday, March 4. Nomination forms are available at schools throughout the town or on Islip Town’s website, www.townofislip-ny.gov.

Dog Obedience Classes

Islip Town’s Department of Parks, Recreation & Cultural Affairs will be offering a seven-week basic course to teach dog owners how to train their pets.

Classes will be held Mondays from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. from March 7 to April 18 at the Bohemia Recreation Center. Fee is $110.

Dog owners will learn commands such as heel, sit, stay and come and also tips and techniques to help end destructive behaviors such as chewing and jumping.

The class is designed for dogs between the ages of four months and two.  Aggressive dogs are not permitted. All dogs must have current veterinarian’s health certificates.

Trip To Fonthill Museum

Islip Town’s Department of Parks, Recreation & Cultural Affairs will be offering a trip to the Fonthill Museum, the home of Henry Chapman Mercer, on Wednesday, May 11. The fee for residents is $49 per person.

Fonthill served as a showplace for Mercer’s Moravian tiles that were produced during the American arts and crafts movement.  The building is a mix of medieval, gothic, and byzantine architectural styles.  The day’s events include a tour of the museum, a stop at the Moravian Tile Workshop and a stop at Peddler’s Village for lunch and shopping.
