Islip Sandy Relief Center Closing

Local residents still in need of assistance may visit center still open in Lindenhurst.

The Hurricane Sandy Disaster Relief Center at Islip Town Hall West will be closing Sunday.

Local residents still in need of assistance can visit the center from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. A center in Mastic is also closing the same day.

New York State and the Federal Emergency Management Agency closely monitor visitor traffic at all New York Disaster Recovery Centers. When traffic slows at a certain time, a center may change its hours or come under consideration for possible closure.

As of Friday more than 3,400 residents visited the centers in Islip and Mastic.

Islip Town residents needing assistance after Sunday will be able to visit the Disaster Recovery Center that remains open at the Lindenhurst Library, 1 Lee Ave. in Lindenhurst.
