Islip DPW Commissioner: Udall Road Traffic Concerns Fall in County's Jurisdiction

Letter states the push for traffic light on Udall Road needs to be addressed by Suffolk county, not Islip Town.

Editor's Note: The following letter was submitted for publication by the Town of Islip in regards to a recent petition calling for the installation of a traffic light and crosswalk on Udall Road.

Dear Resident,

Please be advised that this section of roadway is in fact under the jurisdiction of the Suffolk County DPW, not the Town of Islip.  However, we have been in constant contact with Suffolk County.

It is our understanding that the Traffic Division has opened up a case to deal with the safety concerns of this roadway.  If you would like to contact the Suffolk County Traffic Department, you can reach them at 631-852-4081.

Supervisor Croci and the entire Town Board are aware of this tragic occurrence and we will be kept in the loop as Suffolk County moves forward to make this safe for the community.  As your DPW Commissioner in the Town of Islip, as always, if I can be of any assistance, do not hesitate to contact me.  Thank you very much for your overwhelming concern for your community.

Sincerely,

Thomas Owens

Commissioner
