Hofmeister Sworn In To Deputy Supervisor Post

Long-time Islip administrator to fill supervisors role when Tom Croci departs for military service.

With Islip Supervisor Tom Croci scheduled to temporarily leave his position in July for military service, Eric Hofmeister has been sworn in as deputy supervisor.

When Croci departs for his tour, which is expected to last several months, Hofmeister will assume the administrative duties of the supervisor’s office.

“Eric is an outstanding commissioner and knows how to deliver the best service to our residents. We have a talented team here in Islip, and I am confident that the town will benefit from his vast experience and balanced approach to problem solving," said Croci.

The supervisor, a Navy reservist, announced last week that he was recalled to active duty. As a result, he named Hofmeister as his deputy. At various points in his career, Hofmeister has been in charge of the Community Development Agency, Long Island MacArthur Airport, the Islip Department of Environmental Conservation and even served as town supervisor in 2006 when then-Supervisor Peter McGowan resigned as he faced criminal charges.

“I was honored when Supervisor Croci asked me to consider this post,” Hofmeister said. "I’m proud of the supervisor and the vision he has for Islip Town. Together, with the town board, we will be able to accomplish this vision and tackle many of the challenges facing our town today."
