Councilman Parrington Gives Hero's Welcome to Local Soldier

Councilman, family greets returning soldier at MacArthur Airport

Islip Town Councilman Gene Parrington recently gave a hero's welcome home to Bohemia resident Sean Fleming, an Army sergeant who returned from his second tour of duty in Afghanistan.

According to the Town of Islip, Fleming returned to MacArthur Airport just in time to celebrate the Fourth of July.  Parrington greeted the soldier inside the airport, alongside Fleming's family.  Fleming enlisted in the Army shortly after graduating Connetquot High School in 2006.

Parrington has organized ceremonies for more than 75 returning soldiers who are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.  This tradition, The Hometown Heroes Welcome Program, has been in place at the airport since 2009.
