Senator Phil Boyle is hosting a town hall meeting Tuesday, August 13 to discuss the move by Verizon to replace copper-wire phone lines on Fire Island with a new wireless technology called Voice Link.

The meeting, scheduled to be held at the Ocean Beach Community House in Ocean Beach from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., is aimed at answering Fire Island residents' questions and concerns. Boyle has asked Verizon officials to attend the meeting.

In a press release Boyle stated that he wants "assurances" that the new Voice Link technology will be reliable, especially in times of high usage such as in a large scale emergency.
