Women of West Islip Collecting Items for Local Sandy Victims

Residents can drop off clothing and other items Saturday and Sunday at the West Islip Fire Department.

With many homes in West Islip ravaged by Hurricane Sandy, the Women of West Islip are collecting supplies this weekend to be distributed to their displaced neighbors.

Locals can drop off donations at the West Islip Fire Department on Union Blvd. from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3 and Sunday, Nov. 4. There will also be a drop-off box at the West Islip Public Library.

  • toiletries
  • toilet paper
  • paper towels
  • cleaning supplies
  • contractor bags
  • rubber gloves
  • candles
  • batteries
  • battery operated lanterns
  • gift cards to local eateries
  • spare generators for loan

If you know someone who was affected by the storm and is in need, organizers are asking that you spread the word and alert them that help is available.

Two clothing drives are also set for Saturday at the West Islip Public Library.
