Residents can drop off clothing and other items Saturday and Sunday at the West Islip Fire Department.

With many homes in West Islip ravaged by Hurricane Sandy, the Women of West Islip are collecting supplies this weekend to be distributed to their displaced neighbors.

Locals can drop off donations at the West Islip Fire Department on Union Blvd. from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3 and Sunday, Nov. 4. There will also be a drop-off box at the West Islip Public Library.

Items needed:

  • blankets
  • clothing
  • diapers
  • baby wipes
  • baby food
  • formula
  • pillows
  • toiletries
  • toilet paper
  • paper towels
  • cleaning supplies
  • contractor bags
  • rubber gloves
  • candles
  • batteries
  • battery operated lanterns
  • gift cards to local eateries
  • spare generators for loan

If you know someone who was affected by the storm and is in need, organizers are asking that you spread the word and alert them that help is available.

Two clothing drives are also set for Saturday at the West Islip Public Library.

You can thank all these POS politicians for the new gun legislation designed to make law abidingRead More citizens give up their second amendment rights out of sheer frustration and incontinence of owning a gun legally for increases in savage on citizen violence. This is only the beginning and in short time many New Yorker's will be forced to remain in their homes fearing one of these animals will make them their pray. I for one believe in the old adage, it's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

I think Proposition 2 is a great idea, in the current structure you have to "call out" anRead More individual basically saying "I think you are doing a particularly bad job". Politics get dirty enough as is and I think this will increase participation and ultimately give us a better Board of Education.
