Police Say West Islip Woman Rams Patrol Car Attempting To Flee

A West Islip woman was arrested and charged with DWI after she was pulled over for erratic driving on the Southern State Parkway early Wednesday morning, according to New York State Police. 

Police said Christine Cichon, 31, was taken into custody after she was seen driving her Jeep in the shoulder of the eastbound lane of the Southern State near the Wantagh Parkway around 3 a.m. Wednesday morning. 

According to reports, police initially set up a traffic stop but Cichon continued driving. Then when police pulled her over and approached her Jeep on foot, she attempted to flee the scene, ramming into the back of a trooper's car in the process.

Police said Cichon failed sobriety tests and was charged with DWI, fleeing a police officer (third degree), and other traffic violations.

She was being held for arraignment in Nassau County First District Court.
