West Islip Teen Dies Two Weeks After Crash

Thomas Labetti was in critical condition after he was hit by car while riding his bike Sept. 11; he died in the hospital Thursday.

Thomas Labetti, the West Islip 15-year-old hit by a car while riding his bicycle in town two weeks ago, has died of his injuries in the hospital, Suffolk County Police confirmed Thursday night.

Labetti was rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center after the accident on Sept. 11 by West Islip Fire Department Rescue and listed in critical condition with "severe internal injuries," police said. He died on Thursday afternoon.

Labetti was riding southbound on Udall Road, near Pine Avenue, when he was struck by a 2006 Chevy Tahoe that was also headed southbound at the time of the crash, police said.

The driver of the Tahoe, 34-year-old Dennis A. Grabhorn Jr., of West Islip, was not injured in the crash.

No criminal charges have been filed against Grabhorn. The West Islip community rallied around the Labetti family after the crash by organizing meal donations for the family.

Funeral arrangements are currently being made and Patch will post them as soon as they are confirmed.

You can thank all these POS politicians for the new gun legislation designed to make law abidingRead More citizens give up their second amendment rights out of sheer frustration and incontinence of owning a gun legally for increases in savage on citizen violence. This is only the beginning and in short time many New Yorker's will be forced to remain in their homes fearing one of these animals will make them their pray. I for one believe in the old adage, it's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

Has anyone been able to find out if we are losing money renting this building to this for profitRead More preschool? If I under stood correctly from previous post's, there may be some friendship with one or more BOE members which paved the way for their lease.
