West Islip Teen at Wheel in Fatal Pedestrian Strike

Crash Sunday evening kills Lindenhurst woman.

A West Islip teenager was behind the wheel of a car that fatally struck a pedestrian in North Lindenhurst Sunday evening, Suffolk County police said.

Evelina Kulikovsky, 34, of Lindenhurst, was crossing the westbound lanes of Sunrise Highway near Wellwood Avenue when she was struck by a 2002 Mazda Tribute that was being driven by Natalia Coppola at 6:18 p.m., police said.

Kulikovsky was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. Coppola, 19, was not injured in the crash.

The Mazda was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing, police said.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to contact the First Squad at 631-854-8152 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
